Good day to you all!
I have been slacking in my posting; I missed a week. I have been preparing to start school again after some 12 years with it on the sideline. I am now a Southern New Hampshire University student seeking a bachelor’s in history with a concentration in American history and a minor in philosophy. This journey I am on keeps getting more interesting as I go along it.
I am working on my sixth college. I have started in the past and lost interest, sabotaged myself, or life got in the way. I aim to complete my degree this time and possibly enroll in graduate school.
Here is this week’s post.
Keep your eyes fixed on the matter in hand and observe it well, remembering that it is your duty to be a good person – Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 8.5
Why am I doing this?
I want to improve myself - my mind, soul, and actions. I am not satisfied with who I am and who I was. I have made progress on this journey, but know I have a long way to go. I know I can’t do this alone; I need the guidance of the ancients.
Who am I trying to become?
I aim to be a mentally and emotionally strong person. Someone who analyzes their impressions and acts correctly or appropriately. Someone who is not led astray by passion.
Which aspects of my character am I trying to improve?
I want to improve my trustworthiness and integrity. I want myself to be a “stand-up guy,” a virtuous person. My work in self-discipline needs to improve.
I know there is a great deal to learn about myself and philosophy. I seek wisdom from those farther along the path than I am, who have blazed a trail for us to follow.
Why are you here?
Who are you trying to become?
Which aspects of your character are you trying to improve?
Let me know in the comments what your answers are. Let’s get a conversation going about it!
