In 2018, as my wife was driving me home from work one day, I had an enormous seizure in the car. Since then, I have never been the same.
Here is a poem I wrote about that day.
The Trip Home
Walking down the steps to go home with my love,
Such a beautiful day outside.
Leaving the parking lot and turning on the road to take us home.
Dizziness, queasiness, what is that smell?
Take a deep breath to calm the stomach!
Where did Shannon’s voice go?
Why is the music so loud?
Rising stomach, I'm going to hurl. Don’t puke in the car!
Take a deep breath to calm the stomach!
Open eyes, strapped in an ambulance.
What happened?
Poking, talking, rubbing,
EMTs, Firemen, Police,
Lights flashing, traffic redirected.
I can understand you; stop yelling at me!
I am talking,
Can’t you understand me?
“It’s gonna be okay…….”
